All in a night’s work for a man who’s seen too much

537onthebeatI truly loved my job. I loved its freedom of thought; my decisions at the moment were independent and relatively final, and I had my own office. It didn’t have a restroom, but a Crown Vic beat a Winnebago any day. I traveled at will between calls for service, and best of all, I met people I would never have known otherwise. Many times they were not necessarily at their worst. I even delivered a child once. Imagine…the unrepentant joy of bringing a child into this world with my bare hands, despite the cold darkness this world offered so many around me. It is truly the greatest profession I can imagine-the downside being it’s also the worst. I guess you’d have to be there to understand.
