Life In The Noog: Go, Mocs, Go! (home)

chuckcrowder2Well, we had a good run. The Mocs made it to the dance but forgot how to boogie. But I will say, though, unlike any team of the tourney, for one week the Mocs were “America’s Team” (that is, if you watch Jimmy Fallon).

I’ve never understood basketball. Everything happens so fast. They say there are “plays,” but it’s hard to really figure them out. I guess if Player “A” darts across the middle of the key just in time to receive pass from Player “B” then that could be considered a play. And I’ve noticed the player dribbling the ball sometimes holds up a finger signal before the fury to the goal begins. Maybe he’s just faking out the other team: “This is the play where I drive in and dunk da ball in yo face.”

There was a lot of dunking in the Mocs game. I counted five in a row at the start of the second half. Too bad none were made by our boys. And there weren’t many “plays” either, unless you count stealing the ball away and driving down court for another dunk. But I was proud of the Mocs. For the first half of the game, they stayed within a respectable 35-40 points of tying. Not bad for a 16 seed playing a 1 seed.

That’s another thing I don’t understand about the NCAA Tournament. They’ve got the worst team playing the best, the second worst playing the second best, and so on until we get some upsets which throw everyone’s brackets off and ruin the fate of a lot of $5 bills. Like the Mocs in ‘97 when they “miraculously” made it to the Sweet Sixteen. Regardless, it doesn’t seem fair.
