    Take another look at what really costs money

    From time to time I pass an hour reading junky articles from mainstream news and email websites like Yahoo, MSN, and AOL. These are articles that take the soi-disant recession and do their best to use it to scare the living crap out of readers. These are articles with suggestions like how to get the cheapest milk, how you should buy gas at night because you get more fuel the cooler it is outside. For the record, I don’t recommend that, since other articles of the same ilk inform me that the cold-gas theory doesn’t hold.

    While I don’t deny signs like rising unemployment, suppressed housing values, and a weak dollar indicate a recession, it seems like we may have forgotten that food prices generally don’t decrease, and neither do gas prices, even when they were low. We also may have forgotten …
