We Loves Us Some Cold Beer

From brew pubs to performance art, suds are king

Recently, beer makers from across the country descended upon the ‘noog to sample their wares to the masses assembled on our scenic riverfront. The Southern Brewers Festival celebrated its 14th year of showing local suds lovers the difference between real beer and Bud Light. And once again, hundreds of thirsty mug bearers slurped down microbrew in mega quantities.

That’s because if there’s one thing Chattanoogans like, it’s a party with good beer and lots of it. It didn’t take a slingshot for the powers that be at event-sponsor and local microbrew aficionados Big River to negotiate the purchase of Goliath-sized Gordon Biersch Breweries a few years ago. And you know what that means-more beer.
I personally place beer at the top of my list of favorite beverages. In fact, as far as consumption, it’s second only to water (Coca-Cola heavy is third, V-8 and coffee tie for fourth). And over the years I’ve found that beer is a multi-faceted beverage. From a thick stout to a refreshing pilsner, there are many different consistencies and variations of taste to satisfy just about any mood.
