if this then that: Works by Heath Montgomery opens at AVA on November 6
Chattanooga, Tenn... The Association for Visual Arts (AVA) will host a solo exhibition of recent works by local painter, Heath Montgomery, November 6-24. The opening reception will be Friday, November 6, from 5:30-8 p.m.
Heath Montgomery earned his Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Painting from Savannah College of Art and Design. He then completed his MFA at the University of North Carolina, Greensboro. He has exhibited across the Southeast and in Soho, NY. Montgomery currently teaches art at Baylor School in Chattanooga, TN.
“My work is about systems and mark making. It has it’s own sets of logic and belief,” says Montgomery. “How we think things should work and how they really work are often different. The end goal for most of the work is to see what happens when certain actions are repeated. Hence the title of the show if this then that being a reference to the process of making on a fundamental level.”
Montgomery received the opportunity for a solo show by winning Best In Show in last winter’s AVA Juried Members Exhibition. Applications for that exhibit were accepted from any current AVA member, and juror, Greg Pond, selected artworks. This cycle of a juried member show culminating in a solo showcase of the Best In Show award winner is a tradition that AVA plans to continue with the 2015 Juried Members Exhibition in December.
