Independent filmaker casting new movie
Maybe you oughta be in movies. If so, has local filmmaker Jarrod Whaley got an opportunity for you.
The
producer/director of a number of documentaries, including the recent
Passion Flower, showing dancer Ann Law’s journey back from breast
cancer, as well as experimental films such as The Amaranth and the
silent Telesthesia, is segueing into feature films with his newest
project, Hell Is Other People.
“There’s really no script,” Whaley said. “There’s a scenario that
I’ll be asking actors to improvise from. The idea is to draw the actors
out and get their natural reactions to the situations.” He projects
the film will be about 80 minutes long when completed, and expects to
offer it on the festival circuit, as well as in individually arranged
screenings. Hell Is Other People will be shot in Chattanooga, and
Whaley is looking for an actor and actress in their 20s to 30s, and one
actress in her 40s. “Due to the experimental nature of the project, all
age groups will be considered,” he says. “Acting experience is not
necessary.”
There’s no compensation for actors—after all, this is
independent film we’re talking about here—but you never know, you could
become the next new face at Sundance. “The project will be extremely
collaborative in nature and promises to be a rewarding creative
experience for all involved,” Whaley said.
