Alexander Calls For 100 New Nuclear Reactors

    Written by Jeremy Lawrence
    May 28, 2009 – 12:55 pm

nuclear-energySenator Lamar Alexander wants more nuclear power.  That’s why he’s called for the construction of 100 new reactors in the US in the next 20 years.

The potentially $700 billion proposal would double the amount of reactors currently operating.  Alexander says all 40 GOP Senators support his idea and many Democrats have also signed on.

His next target for support would be the Obama Administration, hoping they embrace it as a part of clean air legislation.

Environmentalists say energy efficiency and conservation are a cheaper way to go, but Alexander said history shows that approach only limits electricity growth and doesn’t reduce it.

I would support this if they will be intrinsically safe pebble bed reactors. Just say no to Westinghouse.
