Catoosa School Board Reaffirms Banner Ban

    Written by Louis Lee
    October 14, 2009 – 11:15 am

cheerleaders_varsity01.pngDespite impassioned pleas by some in the audience, the Catoosa County School system stands by their ban on relgious banners at football games. They re-confirmed their ruling at last night’s school board meeting.

The rule only covers the banners that cheerleaders hold up for players to run through at the start of  a game.

The school system’s attorney, Renzo Wiggins, says the Constitution protects truly private speech.

But when cheerleaders are in uniform and on the football field, it gives the appearance that the school system is condoning the action and that is unconstitutional, according to Wiggins.
