City Council Approves Four More Annexations

    Written by Gary Poole
    November 4, 2009 – 1:06 am

council1The Chattanooga City Council, nearly through with annexation for this year, gave final approval to four more areas in Tuesday night’s meeting. Joining the city will be areas 3C, adjacent to Ruby Falls, along with areas 6A, 6B and 6C which stretch along Highway 58 from Turkeyfoot Road on up the intersection with Harrison-Ooltewah Road.

All four areas passed by 8 to 1 votes, with only Councilman Russell Gilbert voting against.

The council also passed on first reading plans to annex the slightly more controversial area 9B, which is a mixed commercial and residential area adjacent to Old Lee High and Apison Pike.

The area had originally been voted down by the council last month amidst confusion from some council members, and then brought back to the table for a re-vote.

This time around, it passed by a 6 to 3 vote.

Final reading on the ordinance will take place next Tuesday.
