Commission Sends Range Back To Appeals

The County Commission was busy yesterday. They sent a case involving a controversial shooting range in Sale Creek back to the Zoning Appeals board that approved it earlier. Neighbors of the range claim that it is hurting property values.
They also decided not to close public access to an old dirt road that leads to the wilds of Aetna Mountain in Lookout Valley. They say only a judge has that power, which is a surprise after the planning commission had unanimously recommended the closure.
That was all part of a development plan for the mountain that hinges on the road closure.
They also decided to defer action on the sale of a school building that had bogged down the council. That for the sale of the old Signal Mountain Middle School property that Commissioner Richard Casavant was opposed to, claiming that an offer that was $300,000 over the appraised value was inadequate.
Several questions remain about the property that will be addressed in the future.
