Friday Morning Shooting Leaves One Injured

Chattanooga Police are investigating an early morning shooting that occurred around 2:30 a.m. Friday morning in the Brainerd area. A call of shots fired at 5621 Brainerd Road was received by 911 personnel.
At approximately 3:00 a.m. a party with a gunshot wound showed up at Erlanger Hospital by personal vehicle. Officers responded to Erlanger and spoke with the victim, James Appling, age 21, who had been shot in the right thigh.
He advised that he was leaving a local night club, walking in the rear lot of a nearby restaurant when he was approached by a black male with dreads and a light complexion.
The suspect asked for change and when Mr. Appling stated that he didn’t have change, the suspect grabbed him by the throat and shot him in the right thigh.
There is no suspect information at this time. Mr. Appling’s condition is unknown at this time, but his wounds appeared to by non-life threatening.
This case is pending further investigation.
