East Ridge SWAT End Four Hour Standoff

    Written by Louis Lee
    November 4, 2009 – 3:15 pm

A four hour stand-off ended peacefully yesterday when East Ridge Police SWAT team members took a mentally-altered man into custody.  The man told officers he planned to hurt himself … and he had a gun and would shoot THEM if they approached him.

For four hours, negotiators tried to talk the man out of his home, but he only became ore irritated and escalated his threats against officers.

A well-placed tear gas canister allowed officers to go in and take the man into custody without further incident.

The man was taken to Parkridge Hospital for a mental evaluation.

    No charges have been filed.
