Firehall LEED Certification Expense Passes Council

    Written by Gary Poole
    October 20, 2009 – 11:29 pm

LEEDShould the City of Chattanooga pay an engineering firm over $20,000 to certify a new fire hall as being LEED certified? That was the question put before the City Council Tuesday night, which led to a lengthy debate on the matter.

Councilmember Deborah Scott felt it was akin to buying a medal and then pinning it on yourself.

She wondered why if the new fire halls were built LEED compliant it was necessary to spend so much money to get a piece of paying certifying the fact.

Even so, the resolution relating to the new construction of Fire Hall #7 ended up passing the council by a vote of 6 to 3.
