The Office of the Inspector General with help from the DEA and TBI are cracking down on TennCare fraud in the state. They’re targeting people who sell prescription medications obtained through the state-provided health insurance for cash.
Most recently, they nabbed five people in Sequatchie County.
42-year-old Catherine Bowman, 19-year-old Felicia Long and 67-year-old Gene Maynor were all charged with selling the painkiller hydrocodone after having purchased it using TennCare benefits.
39-year-old Carla Carr and 49-year-old Peggy Matherly were charged with selling anti-anxiety and depression medications obtained through TennCare.
All these charges are Class E felonies and could land the accused in jail for two years.
