Four Area Post Offices Could Face Closure
Written by Gary PooleSeptember 2, 2009 – 4:21 pm
With the U.S. Postal Service facing multi-billion dollar losses, they have been forced to look at closing over 400 post offices around the country.
Among the local offices being considered for closing are the East Lake station at 2600 East 34th Street, the Highland Park station at 511 South Hawthorne, the Murray Hills/Lake Hills station at 4420 Oakwood Drive and the the North Chattanooga station at 124 North Market Street.
A postal official said that the national recession , combined with a sharp drop in the use of first class mail, has forced the postal service to make drastic and unpopular cuts.
A final decision on office closings will not be made until October 2nd.
