    Hamilton County GOP Opposes Annexation

    Written by Gary Poole
    September 23, 2009 – 11:36 am

While the politicians may have voted in favor of annexation, their parties have agreed to oppose it. Yesterday, the Hamilton County GOP issued an executive statement opposing annexation on the grounds of fiscal responsibility.

This mirrors what the Democratic Party did earlier in the month.

Citing foundational Republican principles, party leadership concluded that standing in opposition to annexation efforts is fully in line with the party’s goals to hold the government accountable for making well reasoned and thoroughly planned fiscal decisions.

“The Republican Party strongly believes that no Government of any form should be imposed upon a people without the people being affected having a voice,” said party chairman Matthew Bryant. “Individual rights, liberties, and properties are continually eroded when citizens are oppressed by excessive taxation, inflation, government waste, and over regulation.”

Bryant added, “Though the city council is a non-partisan body, we still see annexation as an issue that runs contrary to the very foundation of our conservative principles.”
