A 5-year-old boy and his uncle are hospitalized after a house fire Saturday afternoon. The man noticed smoke coming from the upstairs of the house on 5th Avenue.  He notified the boy’s mother, who got a fire extinguisher, and he went up to get the boy.

The man was later treated for smoke inhalation … the boy was taken to TC Thompson Children’s Hospital with second degree burns to one arm and his back.

Early indications are, the boy was playing with a lighter, and that started the blaze.

Firefighters were able to contain the fire before it consumed the entire house.
