    Kenneth Freeman Files Discrimination Complaint

kenneth freemanA former Chattanooga Police officer has filed a discrimination complaint against the department after the city council refused to re-instate him to duty on Monday after an appeal hearing.

Kenneth Freeman filed the complaint with the Equal Employment Opportunity Office in Nashville.

He claims he was treated unfairly because he is African-American.

He also says that the department used the local media to generate negative publicity against him after a shoving incident involving a Wal-Mart greeter last Christmas Eve.

In fact, Freeman says in his complaint that the 71-year-old greeter racially profiled him and assaulted him from behind as he was leaving the store.

Freeman was suspended without pay for 28 days following the incident.

He was then terminated by Chief of Police Freeman Cooper in August after several charges of insubordination as well as drinking while armed and other policy infractions.

He appealed his termination to the City Council who, after several hours of testimony including new allegations that he threatened to kill a female friend after she said she intended to inform his wife of their relationship, unanimously upheld his termination.

    1. Tom of Nashville says:

      Be afaid. Be very afraid

    2. Jim Strathmeyer says:

Is anyone surprised? This is what happens when you treat officers as unskilled labor.

    3. Bob says:

Hasn’t this guy embarrassed himself enough already? Now allegations of a death threat?!?!

Wish he would do his fellow officers a favor and bow out.

    4. Aeniad says:

See, this is why racial-profiling continues today. You have a man, who in his last ditch effort to keep his cushy government job, throws the race card. I’m sorry, but if I had all these allegations thrown at me, I’d find out which are true and which are false, fight the false claims, win some cash money that way, then fade away from the spotlight. As an African American (I prefer to be called an American, but that’s not the issue), it makes me sad to see someone degrade themselves this way…

    5. AJ says:

This man is out of his tree. Color has nothing to do with it – mental illness does not discriminate.

    6. paul says:

So…this is the kind of person we all may have to deal with during a traffic stop…

    7. Bruce says:

Hey Freeman, I hear that Wal-Mart is hiring. Why don’t you pick up an application?

    8. blackmtnman says:

This whiner needs to get a life.

    9. Chris says:

There are two broad types of police officer. One is the concerned citizen that is doing their part to make this world a better, safer place. The other is the schoolyard bully that is just in it for the power trip that give the first types a bad name. Three guesses which one this guy is.

Kenneth, its not because your black, or white, or hispanic, or anything else. Its because you’re a bully that does not deserve to wear the badge, or be put in charge of anything more important than a drive through window.

    10. Rebecca says:

Apparently, the “race” card is the only card he feels he has left to play. How pathetic…

    11. Jeff says:

Jim Strathmeyer says: Is anyone surprised? This is what happens when you treat officers as unskilled labor.

What would that be? They assault innocent old people, show up to work to carry a loaded weapon with booze on their breath, and try to use their badge as an excuse for their behavior? Jim call your Union rep for a better excuse.

    12. Chris says:

Aeniad: I would like to thank you for your comments. I find that now a days the “race card” is being used as an excuse for everything. Saying that this guy was fired because of Race really does a disservice to people who are really discriminated against, both black and white.

    13. ZombieJ says:

THESE are the types of people that Jesse Jackson / Al Sharpton need to start going after. . . these “boys who cry wolf” at racism when it’s not even a factor in the case. . . it makes light of every SINCERE form of racism that occurs, and numbs us to it when we think “oh not this again” . . . but you’ll never see JJ / Al Sharp go after these people because they don’t really CARE about the truth and the facts, so long as their name gets in the media and it looks like they are fighting racism, whether it’s real or simply perceived, or even flat out lied about

    14. Joshua says:

I read about him shoving a wal-mart greeter from my wii when it happened. The story made me sick.

    15. Loser says:

Na na na na, na na na na. Hey hey hey. Goodbye
