Man Arrested For Dome Building Arson Incident

Chattanooga fire investigators now know who started a suspicious-looking fire a few months ago at the Dome Building at 736 Georgia Avenue. After pursuing various leads and getting the results of samples taken from the fire scene — which tested positive for an accelerant — Lieutenant Anthony Moore with the Fire Investigation Division this morning charged Daniel Maier (59) with arson.
Chattanooga firefighters were called to the Dome Building back on Oct. 4, 2009. There was evidence of a fire around the entrance to the building, but the flames had burned themselves out. The fire damage was minimal and no one was injured.
Lt. Moore said the physical evidence led to Mr. Maier, though he denies setting the fire. Mr. Maier was already in the county jail on other charges. No word on why Mr. Maier tried to burn down the building, which houses several law offices. Lt. Moore said the Chattanooga Police Department’s Crime Scene Unit provided valuable assistance that helped lead to today’s arrest.
