murder caseA first-degree murder warrant has been issued for a man sought in the violent death of his girlfriend as her children slept in their rural mobile home in Whitwell.  Marion County Detective Chad Johnson also said Thursday that Michael Shirley is being sought as a TBI Top-10 fugitive.

Investigators who discovered the body of 27-year-old Brandi Dawn Duba in her mobile home Sunday night said she was beaten with a baseball bat and stabbed.

Her two young children were unharmed, sleeping in another room in the residence.

Johnson said dispatchers first received a call about a car burning about a mile from the home near Whitwell.

    The car belonged to Duba.

Minutes later, a neighbor noticed the front door of the victim’s home was open.
