Moccasin Bend Workers Get Layoff Notices

    Written by Louis Lee
    July 31, 2009 – 12:08 pm

Budget cuts hit home today with pink slips going out to 29 Moccasin Bend employees.  Facing budget cuts of 2-point-7 million dollars, officials at the mental Health Institute said another 11 already vacant positions are also being cut and a 25-bed acute wing will be closed on Monday.

Hospital officials hope increased funding to community-based services and new programs will help offset the cuts.

    Moccasin Bend serves 28 counties.

75 acute care beds and 50 long-term beds will remain at the hospital.

Patients from the wing that is closing will be dispersed to other units.
