No Funding Available For An East Ridge Levee
Written by Gary PooleOctober 30, 2009 – 4:18 pm
Hopes by East Ridge residents for a levee to protect the city from future flooding have been dashed. City Manager William Whitson announced today that Congress has suspended funding for levee projects, including a 1996 allocation for $25 million towards an East Ridge levee.
However, the city wouldn’t have been able to get that money anyway, as they do not have the six-and-quarter million dollars in matching funds.
Flooding last month affected 149 homes, 12 apartment complexes and 19 businesses in East Ridge, costing the city nearly $200,000.
