No Statue For Al Gore At The State Capitol

    Written by Jeremy Lawrence
    June 17, 2009 – 11:55 am

al-goreThe Tennessee Capitol grounds will not see a statue of Al Gore.  That because of Senate Republicans that rejected a measure that would urge the erection of statues of the state’s two Nobel Peace Prize winners.

Gore won the prize in 2007 for his work on global warming and Cordell Hull won in 1945 for his work in creating the United Nations.

The bill got a 15-14 approval vote, but the measure sponsored by Andy Berke of Chattanooga needed at least 17 votes to pass.

The House had unanimously approved the resolution in previous action.
