Police Say NAACP Needs To Work With Them
Written by Louis LeeNovember 4, 2009 – 3:17 pm
Chattanooga Police Chief Freeman Cooper says the local NAACP should work with the community on the causes that lead to increased crime, rather than blaming it on police.
He was reacting to a study released by the group claiming that Chattanooga and Hamilton County have a “major” race problem.
Executive Director Valoria Armstrong accused law enforcement of racial profiling, and further said that black-owned businesses are not treated fairly by local government.
Chief Cooper points to black-on-black crime as a serious problem, noting that of the 13 murders in the city so far this year, nine of the victims have been black … and nine of the suspects are black.
