School Board Member Boydston Granted Diversion

    Written by Gary Poole
    October 27, 2009 – 2:54 pm

shopliftingThe ongoing shoplifting case involving County School Board member Janice Boydston has come to a conclusion.  Criminal Court Judge Rebecca Stern has granted judicial diversion to Boydston, who had been charged with shoplifting after an incident last July at the Lookout Valley Wal-Mart.

Prosecutor Bill Hall, who had opposed diversion, said he is considering whether or not to file an appeal.

Under judicial diversion, the charge can be expunged from the record if the defendant gets in no further trouble for a year.

Boydston has maintained all along she had no intention to shoplift, and that is merely an oversight on her part.
