A more detaild sketch of the car to be built in Chattanooga.

At a press conference today, VW CEO and Chairman Frank Fisher unveiled a new, more detailed sketch of the four-door sedan that will be built here beginning with the 2011 model year. The shape is very close to the CC currently in production and seeing brisk sales, but Fisher emphasizes that this will be a car specifically designed for the American market.

Fisher also announced that the company has decided to go ahead with plans to build a supplier park on site that will house around 15 companies that will build parts necessary for the assembly of the car. Fisher said that the proximity of these crucial manufacturers is critical to the quality of the finished product.

And, finally, Fisher said that the company has already received 12,000 applications for their 1,200 production jobs. These positions will be filled in the Spring of next year, but the selection process is long and detailed, and requires these few months to ensure that Volkswagen is hiring the absolute best employees to make their cars.
