Walnut Street Bridge To Be Closed For 5 Months

    Written by Louis Lee
    November 18, 2009 – 5:20 am

walnut street bridgeThe Walnut Street bridge has become one of the most recognizeable and used landmarks in Chattanooga over the years. Spanning the Tennessee River for more than a hundred years, it was re-purposed as a pedestrian bridge in the 90s.

But now the north end is in need of repairs that will require closing the bridge down for 5 months.

North Shore business owners are not happy with the plan, as the closure will begin December 10th … at the peak of the Christmas shopping season.

Many of the shops only recently recovered from business interruptions caused by roadwork being done along Cherokee Boulevard a few years ago.
