Welcome To The New Pulse (Newspaper Meets Radio)

    Written by Gary Poole
    April 30, 2009 – 8:45 pm

radio-micLongtime visitors to the Chattanooga Pulse website are likely noticing that we’ve redecorated the place just a bit. Okay, we’ve redecorated it a lot. The reason for this is actually quite simple: we’ve joined forces with a brand new radio station here in Chattanooga that shares our name. As of Friday morning, 95.3 Pulse News has become the newest news and information station on the local airwaves… and we’re sharing our website.

Take a few moments to surf through the new site. All of your favorite Pulsecontent is here – everything from our cover stories and features on arts, music and film to columnists such as Dr. Rick, Alex Teach, Chuck Crowder, and Gustavo Arellano.  Plus, we welcome out new Shades of Green columnist Elizabeth Crenshaw to the pages this week, as well.  In fact, if you click on the “Current Issue” link, you’ll be able to read the paper online as if you had it in your hands.  Ain’t technology grand?

But there’s a lot more.  Traffic cameras, video reports, podcasts, a very detailed events calendar, business news, the return of the Pulse Dining Guide, and we’re even getting our Twitter groove on.  And even more on the way.  Plus, now that we’ve expanded into news radio, we can boast of the largest broadcast news team in the Chattanooga area. This means even more coverage of the latest local news and events.  We’ll have our eyes and ears all around the region, bringing you the latest information as it happens.

Which brings us to welcoming our new radio siblings.  In the mornings, you can wake up and ride to work with Dale Deason and the morning news team of Jeremy Lawrence, Lysa Greer and Bryan Stone.  News, traffic, weather, sports, business and lots of interesting conversations.  Glenn Beck takes over at 9:00 a.m. until Noon, when we present a entire hour of news featuring the entire Pulse News team.  At 1:00 p.m., consumer advocate extraordinaire Clark Howard will go to bat for you and your wallet, then at 4:00 p.m. Pulse news editor Gary Poole brings everything back home along with the afternoon news team of Louis Lee, Misty Brandon and Logan Carmichael.  Just like in the morning, it’s the latest news, traffic, weather, sports, business and lots of interesting conversations.

The combination of The Pulse, 95.3 Pulse News and ChattanoogaPulse.com is something of which we are all very proud.  We hope you enjoy everything as well, and pardon our dust while we continue working.  Just make sure to visit us as often as possible to make sure you don’t miss a thing.

Not to worry, folks. Jack FM will be picked up on a different signal, 93.1 I believe.

I’m interested in the news focus. I have high hopes for the synergy between the paper and broadcast. Competition is always good for consumer.
Let’s face facts, news in this town has needed some gogetters.
What are your plans for evening and weekends?
Any chance for some non-conservative syndication?
      Signal needs tweaking tho.

    3. Yes, we know there’s traffic on the ridge cut, and at all major intersections. I think that covering traffic and weather every five minutes will drive your customers/listeners batty – and ultimately away. We can get traffic and weather from a multitude of sources. Also, please get someone to edit your commercials more professionally.

Your focus should be on insightful news; I heard nothing insightful this morning except what was syndicated. Anyone who has even a cursory awareness of what goes on in Chattanooga found this morning’s broadcast as bland as milk toast and lacking depth.

We do need additional talk in this town, but it has to be talk done right. I think the pulse can do well; however, there are a few kinks major that need to be worked out.

      Good Luck,

      Ellis Lawrence

Very impressive first day, guys. Seems that you’ve hit the ground running, demonstrating a potentially superior news team. Great to hear Deason back on the radio. As mentioned above, would love to hear some non-conservative or non-Obama bashing/global warming denying syndication, as these shows already dominate all of talk radio. It’s time for talkers to reach out to the proven majority who have (perhaps) resorted to their ipods. Thom Harmann would be an excellent choice!

    5. Jordan says:

When are you guys going to have callers talk on your “talk” radio? Oh and anyone can syndicate. Try some local stuff. That’s what your paper does. You have potential just follow through. And fix you commercials.

    6. Chris Norton says:

Hey you didn’t mention Phil Hendrie Show in your line-up it’s the best show you have
