    And The Beat Goes On…

For those of you old enough to remember the classic Sonny & Cher tune “The Beat Goes On”, you’ll understand why that song keeps running through my head as I follow the ongoing drama that is the Wal-Mart assault saga.

“The beat goes on, the beat goes on
Drums keep pounding a rhythm to the brain
La de da de de, la de da de da”

I keep hearing that mental drums pounding as the latest twist in the story invovles a very familiar legal name, Brainerd’s very own Robine Flores, attorney at law. Flores, who is well known for being involved in high-profile cases, has agreed to file suit against Detective Kenneth Freeman in Federal Court on behalf of 71-year-old Wal-Mart greeter Bill Walker. This is on the heels of the TBI getting involved in the case (as reported in the PulseBlog below this one).

Flores was in fine oratorical form in making the announcement of the impending suit over the weekend. “I will let the complaint speak for itself at this point, but I will say that I am personally outraged. As a result, I am paying all expenses from my pocket,” he told reporters. “This is a small and meek man, 5′4″ and about 165 pounds, with a hearing deficit that requires him to wear an aid. He is currently so traumatized that he can no longer greet people at the door.”

Flores states that because of the emotional trauma of the incident, Walker is unable to continue his duties as a greeter and has been reassgined “non greeter duties” at the Collegedale Wal-Mart. As for what level of compensation Flores is seeking on behalf of Walker, that remains to be seen, but rest assured we will not have to wait long to find out, as Flores is never one to keep the media in the dark.
