Chinese theatre extends back more than 5,000 years, more recently flowering in the Peking (now Beijing) Opera—and its eye-popping acrobatics and over-the-top dramatics inspired no less than Cirque du Soleil.
Here in town, we’ve got one night to see a New York-based descendant of the tradition, which blends dance (both classical and folk), music and martial arts.
“Shen Yun” will light up the Tivoli at 7:30 p.m. on Tues., Jan. 14 only, bringing a live orchestra and performers whose extraordinary skills will amaze you. In English, “shen yun” translates approximately to “the beauty of divine beings dancing.” Not far off in this show.
