To celebrate history, exercise and the arrival of warm weather, the good folks at Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park and Outdoor Chattanooga have joined forces and are sponsoring a free bicycle ride to the Moccasin Bend National Archeological District.
This two-hour, leisurely ride will begin at Outdoor Chattanooga, located in Coolidge Park, on Thursday, May 8, 6 p.m. If you are over the age of eight, then you are invited to come on down and get pedaling.
The five-mile trek varies from flat ground to moderately hilly terrain. Everyone is encouraged to wear a helmet, but it’s only required for riders 16 years old and younger.
Interpretive rangers from the National Park Service will provide historical information for the participants, and Outdoor Chattanooga staff and volunteers will be en route with riders with leadership and support.
Bring your own bike if you have it, but for those who don’t own a bicycle and still want to participate, Friends of the Park and the Chattanooga Bicycle Club are providing a limited number of bicycles for riders taller than five feet. To reserve a bicycle, call Outdoor Chattanooga at (423) 643-6888. For more information, visit outdoorchattanooga.com
